Maritime Museum at Battery Wharf
Melodic Vision has been commissioned to develop a video installation to be featured in the new Maritime Museum at Battery Wharf(www.batterywharf.com), opening in Boston’s North End late in 2008.
The 1100 square-foot museum will be part of the Regent Boston at Battery Wharf Hotel and Residences, situated directly on the waterfront at the intersection of Battery and Commercial Streets. The Regent Boston at Battery Wharf Hotel and Residences is a luxury mixed-use project featuring a 150-room full-service hotel, 103 luxury residential condominiums, an 18,000 square-foot spa, approximately 33,000 square feet of retail space, 376 underground parking spaces, and a marina.
The Maritime Museum, a project of the Boston History and Innovation Collaborative (www.bostonhistorycollaborative.org), will showcase fascinating people, places, and events connected to Battery Wharf and the surrounding area over the past four centuries. The museum will have an extensive indoor component as well as seven outdoor Harbor Walk panels and two wayfinding pylons.
The research team for historic content includes project coordinator Susan Wilson, Nancy S. Seasholes, and Greg Ketchen. Museum design is by Linda Ziemba of Trace Design Group.
The video being developed by Melodic Vision will be continuously projected on a 42-inch screen within the museum. Blending historic stills and stories from the wharf’s rich history with period music, the program will invite visitors to visit bygone days, and relive tales of colonial defense systems and historic wharves, soldiers and sailors, ferries and sailing ships, shipbuilders and lobster sellers, and a host of daring historic and contemporary missions.
